We found a pretty cool place in Atlanta called "Boutique Guitar Exchange." It is east of downtown, not far from the Carter Center. Plenty of high-end guitars and amps and a relaxed atmosphere. Very clean and orderly, this is one of the few shops I've been in lately that actually warrants a return trip. For long-time readers, this is the closest thing to Tommy's Guitar Shop I've found in the US. Here is their website: www.boutiqueguitarexchange.com/John

I have been buying equipment from Rainbow Guitars since the seventies and have always had the very best service, advice and sales people I have experienced in over thirty tears of playing music. You can shop elsewhere but you will never get the quality help like you can get from the folks at Rainbow Guitars!

davesguitar.com/Dave's Guitar, located in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is hands down hallowed ground in my book. I actually met my wife of 22 years there back in 1986. I had just been discharged from the USN and took a job at a small recording studio located in the back of Dave's old shop in an commercial/industrial park. The space he had leased was far too big for his needs and he in turn leased the remaining space to the guys that built the studio. I was a lowly 'cable monkey' and she came in with her band to record a demo. It was love at first sight for me, but it took me three months to convince her that she felt the same way. She has known Dave since she was 10 and he 16 working at another local music store. If you are ever in La Crosse and want to check out a big guitar store with a 'small shop' feel, check out Dave's and be sure to tell him that K & B sent ya. Dave's shop is now over three hours away and we sadly don't get down there as often as we would like. But when we do, it feels like going home.

Well... here in Rock Hill, SC I go to either Tillman's or Woody's music. Small town atmosphere and knowledgeable folks and will work deals unlike the Guitar Center and Sam Ash in Charlotte, NC! I believe in supporting the smaller, independently owned music stores whenever possible!
Rhythm City in Atlanta... Ahhhhh yes!!!! I bought my Marshall's from them back in the early 80's!!! I bought 2 half stacks (2204 heads and 1960A cabinets) for $1600 cash... Reliable Music (now closed) wanted $1600 for one!!!! I drove down on a Friday and stayed over at my uncles and then drove back with them both on that Saturday... played a gig Saturday night! ;D

Here in St Petersburg, FL, I like "Dave Shepard's Rock 'n' Blues Academy"... its really a music "school", but he sells a bunch of Dean guitars, too. He gets the blems, so he sells 'em for real cheap - which is definitely the language I speak! Oh, and by the way, I work there, too, as the "in-house" guitar tech...

Hey I just found one of the coolest guitar shops I have ever been in, in a long time. As some of you know my wife had to have an OP that took us to Alabama (we live in FL) well as the walls were closing in on me at the Inn we are staying at I went for a drive and found this guitar store. On the out side the store look like it had been around for a while. As you walk in through the door it's like a walk back in time. They have all kinds of old guitar and amps ranging for the 40's to today. It was so cool to see and the prices where not that bad. I hope some day to be able to come back here and buy some stuff from them. They are some real cool people too. It did remind me of the old music stores of my past. Oh they have been there over 30 years. So Cool to find something like that. Not too many stores around like that anymore.

So can you tell us the name of the store, or are you trying to keep them as your own personal supplier. Wink Chris

I can't remember the name and I didn't get a B/C from them. I have to go back in July I'll get the info and share it with you all. I'm going to take my camera too. I'll see if they will let me take some pictures. You wont believe all the cool stuff they have.

Eddie -- Can you give us the town? I spent a lot of time in Alabama over the years -- I may have been there before!
Have you been to Blue Angel's Guitars in Pensacola?
Thanks John

Thanks John Yes I think I have been to Blue Angel's It's been a while. Do you know where the UAB medal center is in Birmingham? You go down the main street there it's about 5 or 6 miles past the UAB on the left. They have a lot of old Fender amps and guitars. Gibson too. There are bars on the door and windows. From the out side the building looks like it going to fall down. But on the inside it's another story. A lot of stuff but clean.

www.my-music-store.comThe wife found this shop on the intertubes, it's up nort' of us in Golden Valley. It's called My Music Store and is run by this groovy cat named Jim Harms. We've lived in the Twin Cities for 20+ years now, I've even been to the hardware store that's less than 500 ft from this place and I still managed to miss it. What a cool shop.....
