Has anyone been watching "Super Group" with Mr. Nugent et al? Also, what do you think about the metal American Idol, "SuperNova"?
As far as Super Group, I plan to buy the DVD. Concerning SuperNova, I think Mr. Lee and crew need to expand their search. I don't believe there is a winner among the group! The houseband is killer, though. Very nice gear.
My opinion only, John

I haven't seen the Super Group show, and I've watched a little bit of Super Nova. I should think that a group with Tommy Lee and Gilby Clarke should be able to score any good singer they want. This show is just for their own publicity.
Still, the CBS shows "Big Brother" and "Rock Star" are genius programming. The viewer gets locked in three nights a week, during a time when the competition is all re-runs. CBS gets to dominate the commercial air time with spots for their own upcoming Fall shows. They don't have to pay writers, and sincde these shows never air again, no residuals. Win-win....

I concur...what happened to sitcoms? Did they just get too expensive?

My theory is that the so-called writers who came about during the slacker 90s were of such poor quality that the TV networks couldn't stand their work. The MTV "Real World" (what a laugh!) generation never spent any time watching "The Andy Griffith Show" or "I Love Lucy" or "All In The Family" or even "Cheers" or "Seinfeld." Common sit-com attributes like comic timing and ensemble casting are a dying art.

I tend to agree with your assessment of the current crop of writers. I don't really think it is that they are that bad, technically; rather, I just think that they are completely out of touch with their customers, the American people.
Also, the mini-morality plays (everything from the "Andy Griffith Show" to "The Flintstones") of the 60's are completely out of favor because their "message" may be one of judgement, which is strictly fobidden.
I just feel like the guy in the Bruce Springsteen song, updated for 2006: 256 channels and there's nothing on.

I watched and enjoyed Supernova, all the while screaming at the TV that I should be on the show! I love to sing and I have been watching the CBS website to see when casting starts for the next run, but they are running a show about writing commercial jingles instead. WTF?
I don't normally watch reality shows, but I was pissed when Lukas won. They eliminated at least five better singers, technically speaking.
