OH WOW Eddie! How absolutely cool is that.? I'm very excited for your good fortune my friend. Something that big you could even make a clean room for oil finishing and electronic work. SUPER COOL!

Thanks Dane! I can hardly wait to get moved in over there. It will be so nice to have all that space for a shop. I wont have to keep moving things around so I can use the tools. They will all have their own space and no more hitting walls when ripping or cutting wood, or tripping over stuff. LOL!
Not only that I can be outside! Go fishing, and so much more. Not looking to all the packing and getting rid of stuff. But we have a month and half to get that done in.

I have to say, I am so disappointed with the GGBO this year. It's not been up on my list of things to watch. It seems to be all over the place. I did try to watch a couple of the builds going on. But nothing is really grabbing me.
There is one that I thought was OK. It is a build where the guy put the controls in the side of the guitar. The one draw back for me there was no talking in the video, and he put a lot of music in the video I did care for. But the build itself is cool.
I did try and watch two others, but they talked way too much and really were not showing much about what they are building. So, they became boring.
I also tried to watch Texas Toast where they were doing something with announcing winners I thought was about the GGBO, but it was so stupid and drug out that I quit watching it. I have seen nothing with Ben being involved with any of it. To me, I feel this may be the end of the GGBO. At least it will be for me.

I think I'm going to give it a bit more time. I've some builders I like and will follow them through to the end. But by and large, yeah not much to get excited about.

Beyond Dane's bass I found little of interest. Every design I looked at (admittedly all too briefly out of pragmatic necessity) was hackneyed or gimmicky, and in any event there was far too much to see to form an overall objective opinion. One of the great things about Dane's bass was that it wasn't possible to predict what he had in mind.

I really can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's because I have made so many guitars and watched so many videos since I started making guitars. But there is nothing too impressive to me anymore. Don't get me wrong, I do like to see some in how they do things, and once in a while I'll see something I would like to try. Right now, been watching videos on how people put different kinds of woods together for the body. Pretty interesting in the designs and how everyone has a way of doing it.
Yep, planning my next build. Can hardly wait to get going on it. Not going to say what I am up to just yet. Need to figure out some things. Plus, I want to get on the fabric build once again.
But, I really don't know why I have lost interest in the GGBO or some of the other builders out there. Could be a lot of me and what I am going through, I guess.
Would be nice to see some more people on here sharing again. Think It's time for John to make something again from scratch. It's been a long while. I think he needs to make his version of the Guitar Attack guitar! After all, I did send him a template. LOL!

Steve, I think in one the of videos I said something to the effect, I wasn't going to draw a full size plan because I had the plan from the first 335. Don't know how much of this got edited out but I also said All you have to get right is the neck angle and scale length. Past that it's what ever you want. The part about not knowing what I had in mind. Truth be told I wasn't sure where things would end up. A lot of firsts on the build. First bass, first fretless or part fretless bass, first carved mahogany top and back, first copper leaf, first veneer layers and first magnetic cover on truss rod. There may be more firsts. I apologize for the bragging just got on a roll. To finish off the first thought, I have never drawn a full set of plans on my custom builds that I remember. I'm sure I drew body designs and head stock designs for size and feel but a blueprint so to speak.

Eddie, I think once I realized most people watching and voting on GGBO guitars don't know anything about guitars and just want to be entertained by tricky video content I knew It wasn't for me anymore. But I have found and still watch folks from last year even that are making great guitars. There are a couple Brits I like a lot. Patrick at ADVENTURES FROM THE SHED OF DREAMS, whom I trade comments with quite often and who has given me credit for some of his processes. Another is Anthony at 4th AVENUE GUITARS he was a winner last year with his 335 copper top last year. Also a guy from Atlanta, EWOR GUITARS, Dave. He does some very nice work and just did a series on CNC building and all his mistakes and so on. I've used two of his designs at least close enough to site him with credit in my videos. I don't think any of these have even started their GGBO builds yet. I'm not sure when the deadline is but I think time is getting tight. I watch more than these but for the most part I'm not impressed enough to remember their names.

I think Dane's GGBO bass was incredible, and it was great to be a small part of that build. I think this line from Dane is key:
"...I think once I realized most people watching and voting on GGBO guitars don't know anything about guitars and just want to be entertained by tricky video content I knew it wasn't for me anymore."
Being entertained is the key point. Kind of like "American Idol"; making somebody an idol isn't the product. The television show is the product.
I'm going to keep working on guitars because the process to me is the reward. I also think I am finally making some progress!
