I watched it straight through John. He puts across lots of good common sense in a very relaxed way and seemed like a really nice guy. The internet could do with more content like that, although it'll be a cold day in a very hot place before I would consider a dive bomb bridge like that for one of my guitars!
He went on at length about stretching strings, and as Dane knows I have my own ideas about the whole string stretching thing, however I wouldn't take issue with Mr. Weber, Dane or anyone else for that matter! For a start, a dependable and quick process more or less makes it mandatory.
Thanks for posting.

Good video, lots of good info. I was planning on looking for a string stretcher. I saw another tech using one. I like the strings to be stable when I do a set up and have always used my fingers for stretching.

This is good video. He put string on like I do. Except I use a hand wider.
He just addressed an on going issue. Intonation. I have told people over and over again about setting it up with the player of the guitar. I just had a heated chat on FB about this issue. If the customer is not there or can't be there, then I like to watch them play their guitar before I do anything to it. In watching someone play and I tell what I need to do to the guitar.
I have found that a lot of people play heavy handed or like to squeeze the heck out of strings. A lot of people think that they need to put the string down to the fret board. I have coached people on playing with not such a hard grip. It's bad on the strings, frets, and fret board. Puss you have to tune the guitar out of tune when playing with such a hard grip.
Over the years I learned I can manipulate the intonation when setting up a guitar by the way I touch a string. I know we all have our way we do things.
Floyd Rose, Bigsby, and a like, I have never had a problem in setting them up. It does take some common since. But I have never had an issue in setting them up. But I see so many with issues after issues in setting up a tremolo. When I see those I wish I could get my hand s on it. LOL!
Oh, here is something else I found out... When having someone play the guitar before doing any work, make them play standing up and sitting down. It does make a difference in the way that guitar sounds. You can really hear it on acoustic guitars.
So glad the guy in the video never said the "tone" word. He said sound. EB

I know what you mean Eddie. I am hard on fretting (pick too hard as well). I'm hard on writing and cutting food too. With guitar I think it starts off with trying to avoid buzzes, and is a good argument against so-called "beginners" instruments. I know a good set up is mandatory and a beginners guitar can be made as good as possible, but a well set up "good" guitar from the get-go would probably initiate better habits. Sharp cutlery helps too!

He didn't have much money, and yes I did it for free. But the guitar was for his gandkid. It may have cost $50.00 new. The amount of work I did to it to get it playable would have went way over the cost of the guitar.
But I got it playing really nice. So nice I didn't know if I wanted to let him have it back. HA! I don't know what ever happened to that guitar. But I hope his gandkid is playing it by now.

It's heartening to know that there are still guys around like you Eddie. I have a maxim that I never charge friends or family, but then I only ever do things for friends and family!
