Good approach with the neck carve Eddie. Neck profile is a personal thing but I believe it's also dependent on the guitar style to some extent. I once had a neck made for a Strat and specified a narrow "Vee", the guy obliged but took me too literally and made it 1/8" too narrow for the neck pocket. Prior to that he had made a Tele neck for my "Esquire" and it was more baseball bat in profile. I grew to like the baseball bat profile. My Warmoth neck on the Danny Gatton is "Boat" neck profile where you have a baseball neck with an accentuated "Vee" near the nut and I now find that to be my favourite- best of both worlds. Slick necks don't "do" it for me these days I'm afraid. A 1" starting point is a good choice. Nice work as usual Eddie. Impressive.

Impressive. e&oe ...Yes, it really depends on the guitar and what it is speaking to me. But I have guitars that I love with a chunky neck. The only thing for me and the way I play guitar it really does not matter to much how hick a neck is. But, If I had to pick one over the other I like the feel of a thin neck. I don't know why but to me they just feel better. Plus on a thin neck I can reach the notes better. LOL! V necks are fun to play. I may do a v neck some day. I think I could grow to like a V neck.
I mostly play with my thumb behind the neck. I don't grip the neck like a lot of people do. But, I have made them in so many ways. One of my favorite necks is on my neck through LPs I made a few years back. I did some tricks on it that I thought I was the only one that did it the way I did that one. But, No... Ben Crow had already been doing it. LOL! The way I did that neck was from the 12th fret up I carved a concave spot in it to where it fits my hand better when playing the higher notes. It is super comfortable. I have let people play that guitar and more times than not they say something like this... That neck is awesome!... Then I tell them what I did to the neck. But see this is were a true "Kustom" comes into play. There are no boundrys on how I do something.
When I start a build I always ask myself... What if I was to do that?... Hum... What I am building? I have a router and some files and a saw.... What will I do??? LOL! That thing you posted will never leave me. HA! EB

here ya go...
Fret board has a 12" radius and the frets are in.
Side dot markers are in. I went with cream colored markers this time.
Here is the finished product. All the frets are leveled and recrowned. I am going to wait and polish them after the guitar has gone together.
Here while back we were talking about measurements. This ruler has been one of my go to rulers for many years now. This is one that I used in printing. It has 4 different measurements on it. It really comes in hand for finding center on a lot of guitar related things.
It is 18" long. If I remember right I got this when I had my own print shop back in the 80s. I have 2 others that I have had since the 70s.
They are all made out of stainless steal. They will last long after I'm gone. LOL!
Today was another good day as far as this build is going. I am super pleased at how the neck is going. I can hardly wait for it to set into the body. I'll be ordering parts today. So that will be a week or two to get them all in.
I wont be doing anything tomorrow on this build. It's Easter and the wife has plans. LOL!
So hope you all have a great day tomorrow, stay safe, and watch out for Elmer J. Fudd, I hear is looking for rabbits!

Looking good Eddie, I got 36" SS rule a while back. It has both SAE and METRIC. I'm finding METRIC very handy.

I did some experimenting with bindings today. I did not like how they came out and how long it takes to get them to a thickness to come close to use.
So, I am not going to be doing bindings on this. I ordered all the parts for this the other day. So, I am once again waiting on parts. I may go head and rout the pickup routs and the the control cavity. That will be some time this week. Having a down day today. So, hard telling if I'll do anything else today.

I never play "thumb over" Eddie because I had classical training for the first two years, and a lifetime's habit was inculcated. It is rooted in barre technique, but by and large I tend to cradle the neck between thumb and index finger that half of the time results in an aerial thumb which by rights could actually be put to some better use!
I hope you feel a little better tomorrow Sir.

Eddie some days it's hard to make any progress but you've shown us plenty of days that you made great progress. You're not punching a clock enjoy the ride.

I am in one of my depressed moods today. Ben fighting it all day. I'll get over it sooner or later. I did do some things on the other build. I might post about it to tomorrow. I am super frustrated about my eye. It's not doing as well as it was when I first got the surgery. I go back to the doctor next week, I think. But I don't think there is much he can do about it. Just something else I have to get along with.

Well, alright... A lot of the parts for this build have come in. I hope to have the rest soon Once I get some finish done to the other build, I'll start back on this one. Still trying to decide what I want to do on the body of this one. I may do another lite carve top to this. Or I may do the arm rest thing with a tummy cut on the back. That would lighten it up some more.
I also may be trying out another product on the finish on this. Scary right? LOL! I'll see about it later on. My son is using it on a wood project he is doing and I really like how it's coming along.
On another subject; I am still trying to find a good wood source that is close to me. I just may have found one. I seen it today in our travels. So, I am going to call them tomorrow and see if they carry any hard woods. Be nice if they do, because they are only 5 miles away form me.
I can order the woods I want from Home Depot or Low's but I have to put in a good size order for them to order it in. At least that is what they were telling me. I don't know what the guy meant by good size order.
Well, anyways, I would like to get the two guitars in a finish soon. Before the the humidly hits. I'll see how it goes. Today started out raining and ended up being a super nice day.

Hope you wood source works well for you Eddie. Me too! Going to call them today.
Since today is a rain day, I may go in and start drawing out a plan for the parts I have gotten for this build. But I think I will be using this day to do some clean up in my guitar room and if I have any time left I may work on an other video for my You Tube channel.
Going to be one of them lazy days for me. EB

Hope you wood source works well for you Eddie. Well, the wood (lumber yard) I seen don't carry nor will they order any. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Bummer Eddie, who would have thought it would be that hard to find a hardwood vendor. My biggest problem with the guys I use is that they are closed on the weekend. They always have the normal stuff like African mahogany, maple, alder, and poplar. And they have random exotics in random sizes. Like pauduk, wenge, bloodwood, the hearts- purple, yellow. I used to get pau ferro- Bolivian rosewood but I haven't seen that in some time. And they are an hour and a half away.
