I forgot to show that I mounted the miter box to a 2X4" board. This helps to be able to clamp it to the table. That way I don't have to fight holding it while trying to cut the slots.
This turned out to be a pretty good day for me. It didn't start off that way. A good friend of mine called me from AZ, and we would up talking for a couple of hr. It was so good to hear from him. He owns a music store there, I helped him out over the years and tough him how to work on guitars. Even today on the phone I was able to help him out with some ideas on hot to fix some things.
I sure miss all my friends back there. I also miss the customers I had there. Oh well, it's been hard here to get things going as far as working guitars goes. People call me to do some work for them then they never show up.
Was telling the wife today, if I could develop some customers I would like to open up a little shop. that is something I have been wanting to do for a long while now. I want a little shop that I could sell some guitars and work on them for people that need stuff done on their guitars and other instruments. Maybe even do some amp repair's.
I know I'm getting pretty old to want something like that. But it has been a long time dream of mine, and I love to help people out. For me as long as I could make enough to keep the store open that would be alright with me.
Oh well, guess I can dream a little. LOL! EB

Actually yeah, using the presloted board would be great way to mark an acrylic template.

I can use my band saw to cut the acrylic. If my band saw was deep enough I would use it to cut the slots needed for the pin. Hum. I wounder if I could use my jig saw? Hum...

off and running...
I got the truss rod in and the fret board cut down. (profiled)
Test fitting it before glue up.
This is the top of the guitar. I took it over to my band saw. I was able to cut it super close to my lines. See what happens if the blade is tight! LOL!
here is the top again. I wet it down so you can see how cool this guitar is going to look.
here is what happened the other day with the router. It's not as bad as it looks in the picture. Glad it's on the back.
to help loos some weight I decided to punch some hole in the back and top. Once the two become on you wont see it.
Top and back are done with the holes. LOL! I decided not to router it out. Leaving the holes like you see them.
The bad thing for me is after making a big mess I have to clean it up. I can't let it sit for a day or two.
Today was an awesome day out. The weather is super nice. Lot better than yesterday. If you notice, I did not put any holes on the one end of the body. That's because that is where the control cavity is going. So I didn't I needed any holes there. HA! I did get the fret board glued on the neck blank. I didn't take any pictures of that. Nothing that some have not seen over and over again.
Teak wood (at least this teak wood) so far has been fairly good wood to work with. Sanding it is a little bit hard because with the wood being oily or waxy, it plugs up the sand paper pretty fast. I may try wiping it off with some lacquer thinner before sanding to see if that would help. This wood also smells good. Not over powering but a nice scent.
I stayed out al day today. Was so nice to be out in good weather and have things go smooth. Once I get the clamps off the neck, I'll be gluing the top and back together. But before I do I might router in some wire cavity's. Something for me to think about. Once I get the top and back glued together, then it's back to the neck. I need to make the heal a little bit thicker from top to bottom. But I think I am going to profile the neck first, then add the heal thickness then profile it after glue up. I'll decide on that later on.
I really think this is going to be a beautiful guitar once done. There will not be another one like it that I know of.
My band saw works so much better now. I got a little excited at how close I could get to my lines on the top of the guitars. There is no routing on it only cuts from the band saw. Once the top and back are glued together. I'll file and sand them together. It should come out good. Going to wait on fixing the tear out until the top and back are joined.
So a lot to do yet.
OK, kids until next time,... Live long and prosper! EB

Some of them would stop and look up at me and I could see in their eyes that they were asking the same thing as in the YT video. What's he building up there??? LOL! perfect timing

OK ya all! Here's what I got done today...
Got the neck profiled. I also got the heal of the neck glued up. It needed to be thickened by 1/2"
did a little bit of sanding with 80 grit sand paper. I like to rough up the wood before gluing. Also, I hooked up my shop vac to the sander. Wow does that ever help cut way down on the dust these little sanders can make. I'll never use this sander again without the vac.
Can you say clamp it up? LOL! neck heal and body all clamped up. I'll let sit over night.
Today was not as nice out as it was yesterday, but at least it wasn't to hot out. Tomorrow, I'll more than likely start on the body. I may go ahead and square up the heal of the neck. But after that It's onto the body.
Lot work to be done on the body. Lots and lots of sanding. I'll need to run it through the band saw again to help true it up some. Once I get that in shape who know what I'll be doing... LOL Building something to keep people wondering. HA!

I worked really hard today on truing up the sides of the body and shaping up the peg head and heal on this.
Took a lot longer to sand off the sides on this build than I expected, but I got it done.
I Used my drill press as a drum sander. It worked out really well. But I think I need to speed the drill press up to do sanding. It took so long. I use tow sizes of sanding drums to sand the sides of the body and some of the neck.
I also used my table top belt sander. Please note I had to use a block of wood on both the drill press and the sander. This helped me to have better clearance around the tools and body.
Here it is, all nice a sanded sides. Took me about 3 hr to do this. So I am done fore the day. But I think this is going to be one awesome looking guitar when done.
today our weather here had dropped some. Still a nice day out but cooler. Good day for sanding. LOL! But I am done for today. The old body said enough. So I came it to rest and share an update.
LOL!!! I has some people walk by and the stopped to see if they could see what I was doing. All I could hear was that... What's he doing up there, what's he building? ....

It's coming along nicely Eddie. It's nice to have some kind of power sanding to get things evened up.
"Hey what's that guy doing up there with table saws and routers?"

Sure, it's looking great. You really do make swift progress when you get the bit between your teeth Eddie. Everything seems to take me far longer than anticipated- even with the benefit of hindsight.

Went a head and started the neck carving today...
here is side view of the carve.
I was going to radius the fret board today. But it will have to wait for another day. Once again the carving and shaping of the neck got to me.
I am liking teak wood. It shapes up nice! I am super excited over how good the neck feels on this one.
I cut more off of this neck (wood wise) than I have been doing. Most of the I start with the neck at 1" thick and start my carve. But it is was time consuming to get the neck down to where it does not feel like a base ball bat. The neck on the other guitar in waiting I cut to 3/4". Still took some time to get it to where I wanted it. But, today I decided to take this one down even more. I did a lot of measurements to see if I could take it down to 1/2" . So that is what I did. The neck is nice and thin.
So, I may, tomorrow, do the radius on the fret board. If I do, I'll fret it and make a nut for it.
I have not decided yet if I want to do binding or not. Most of the depends if I can make them or not and what I can find to use as wood binding. I still need to do some experimenting with that.
I also need to order parts for this build. I'll be doing that after I eat. LOL!
OK Boy's and Girls, keep checking to the next exciting guitar build on Guitar Attack... LOL! EB
