Nice work Eddie. The peg head angle cut is impressive using an inexpensive bandsaw like that.

That's good, looks like it cuts square. That drum on the drill press will come in super handy.

I was surprised at how well the band saw worked out. I had a small band saw once a long time ago and it was junk! But so far this one is doing what I want. I am glad. I didn't want to buy a big one and then try and figure out how to get up stares to my condo. LOL!
I think the thing was for me and cutting on the band saw I was prepared to take my time. But the saw cut the wood as fast as my big band saw did. No binding or slowing down the blade. Like I said I was surprised at how well it did.
Today, I am going to try and get the truss rod channel in. I am also going to do some experimenting on cleaning up the sides on the body. I really don't want to use the router for that. I have had to many bad things happen when using a router for the clean up on the sides of the body.
So, off to do some things...

OK truss rod is in...
I learned something today. I use the fence on my router to rout out for the truss rod. My biggest problem has been trying to center up the router to my center line. I found if you use a fosner bit that is the same size ot the router bit. You can drill a hole that is spot on, then put the router bit in the hole. Make the adjustment needed. So easy anyone can do it. LOL~
here is the router with the guide/fence
here is the truss rod in. Please note you have to rout out in at least two passes. This helps to save the router bit. You also have to use a bigger router bit for the adjustment end on the rod.
Oh no!!! I went to far... No worries I'll fix it.
Here we go. I made a plug for it. It fits nice and tight. I need to scrape it down level, should be good to go.
It's a fun day when I can learn something on my own and have it work out! LOL! Next up will be the fret board. I have some trick up my sleeve for it as well. I hope it works out. Once I get the fret board done, then I'll profile it and glue it onto the neck blank. Then I'll ruff cut the neck out and true up the sides. I should have my router table made by then. At least I hop I do. HA!
Once I get that far I may let it rest and start on the body. Still thinking of doing a soft carve top on it. I also have another surprise coming up for this build. Something that I have not seen done to a guitar as of yet. So, I don't want to say anything just yet, because it's going to take some time to pull it off. So you all will have to wait and see.

I don't use a fence on my router but that's a good trick and I can adapt to my method by drilling a hole at each end and setting my router sled over to pins to center it up.
Oh Eddie another cliff hanger.

Yep another cliff hanger!!

I didn't get a lot done today. Feeling like a grumpy old man today.
So here is what I did get done.
I got the plug shaved down. Looking pretty good.
I did a first for me. I decided to go ahead and make a plug at the adjusting part of the truss rod. So I found a piece of scrap wood that came off of the body cuts. I used my band saw to cut it to an over size. I then used my table top sander to get it fit just right.
here is the plug after sanding to fit.
I got it cut down as close as I could get it on my band saw. I like the wood to be proud of the wood I working with.
Here are the tools I used to get things level.
Here we go! All nice and flat. Doing this will help lock the truss rod in to keep it from moving up or down in the neck. I have never had a problem with that. It will also aid in giving the nut more surface to sit on.
This is the last bone nut I have. The fret board I got is really thinck. But there is still a lot of sanding to do to the fret board. So I'll see if this nut is going to work or not. I may end up putting shim under it to get it the right height.
I did get the fret slots cut today. I ran into some problems in cutting the slots. So I stopped until I can figure out and other way of cutting the slots. I think I am going to free hand them, and use the miter box. The miter box is not square enough for what I am doing. It would be fine for construction work. But it's not fine for cutting slots. I use to free hand them when I first started to make necks. But now that I shake and go on, I am a little nervous about trying free hand. I'll see in the morning.
I miss my other fret saw. I think it worked better than the one I have now. I learned a trick I'll try in the morning. See if that will help this saw. Someone told me to put some bees wax on the blade. So I'll try that to see if it helps smooth things out.

Great work Eddie. There's no way I could cut fret slots by hand (and I am not prone to shaking.) I'd go for some type of moveable guide slot but I guess you'll have a sure method in mind? I'm enjoying this Eddie. The pictures you upload are always tiny, so small in fact that I have to aim my finger tip really really carefully to expand them and sometimes I just give up. I then select the "view in a browser" option and there are the pictures nice and large, but Proboards then plasters a banner encouraging me to allow ads which my paid for but abandoned app excludes. Ah- the dollar, the dollar! Anyway, keep up the good work Eddie.

It's coming along Eddie. I would clamp a block at the fret location square to the center line. It would act a guide for the slot and as a vertical square to keep the saw blade perpendicular.

But I still get that pop up that tells me I should un block the ads.
Thanks for the encouragement! EB

Yep I did think of that too about the clamping. Going to experiment today on a few ways. Anything has got to be better than what I tried before. I have to fill in and re cut one of the 3 slots I cut. That is when I stopped.
Once I have the slots cut, everything else should go well.

Not a lot going on with the project in the last two days. Been trying to set up my little shop on the patio. It's screened in. My wife and I have been working on it a little at a time. I almost have it set up and ready to go.
I may in the next day or two get the router table made. Going to need that. Plus it has warmed up and yet another storm is do in this week starting today. So the humidity has gone way up again. So it's hot and muggy again. This should be the last of it for a few weeks. We will see,

Here are two pictures of my Lil shop.
I do have my joiner/planer on the table. It's behind the band saw. But I think this table will work out good for what I want it for.
This is the table I'll be converting into a router table. That router base will be going under the table.
The two tables are the ones I got for free. The black one with the tools on it was super dirty. I had years of cigarette smoke all over it. The rags we used to clean it came out almost black. It was super sticky. But we did manage to get the gunk cleaned off. The tools are sitting on the table for now. My plan is to bolt the tools down to keep them from moving when in use.
I like how tall the router table will be. I can't wait to get it done.
On another note; I did some experimenting on sawing the fret slots. I think I am going free hand. Seems I do better free hand. Go figure! I'll be posting the out come on that at a later time.

Very nice Eddie. Quite literally a router table. You've got a nice group of tools going again.

Very nice Eddie. Quite literally a router table. You've got a nice group of tools going again. Thanks Dane! It's not quite the tools I once had. But it's a good start. Should get me through this project. The sander is left over from my last shop as well as the joiner/planer. That is a new shop vac. My other one got stolen when we were moving. It and out rug shampooer came up missing. Someone had to have taken them when we were not looking. Not the fist time we had things taken in moving.
I hope to get out there today and start on the router table. I was looking at the body yesterday, and I have been trying to decide If I want to put that walnut top on it or not. I seen a build yesterday that looked pretty cool in how he did a carve top with the walnut in the middle of the top with the white wood showing around the walnut. Looked super cool! So it got me to thinking on the top again.
Hum...
