I do like Guild guitars. e&oe ...Yes they are great guitars. I have only worked on a few of them. Mostly Acoustics. I had one once a long time ago. Can't remember why I sold it. I probably traded it for something. LOL! I may have to see if I can get another one.
But anyway I have played a few of them over the years. They are great guitars.
I also like a lot of other guitars that really get no attention. So that tells me they are really good guitars because no one has any issues with them, or people are stuck on the names of Fender and Gibson's. LOL!
I have have been blessed to have been able to work on so many different brands of guitars. Some like Guild are impressive. Some of the other name brands have disappointed me over the years. A lot of name brands to me have been hyped up so much that people fall for the name. So people pay out a lot of money for over priced junk.
I have worked on way too many guitars now that I can call a lot of these over priced name brand guitars junk. It's pretty bad when someone would bring me a brand new guitar that they paid a lot of money for that needed a lot of work done to it just to make a good playing guitar.
For me I would have never walked out of the store with one that was in that kind of shape. I would ask people or tell them to take it back and make the dealer fix it. Then they tell me they bought them on line. WOW! and you paid how much for it? Well, it kept me busy! LOL EB

Just thought I'd chime in here about the SGs being neck heavy. I agree they are and I think that's the only thing I don't like about my Epi SG. Which I should add here that I think is every bit a good or well built then any Gibson I've had the pleasure of playing. I've decided to do something scandalous and move the strap button to the tip of the horn on my SG. As not a big deal as this is I've spent a lot of time thinking through the ramifications of this move. Cons, it might devalue the guitar. Because I might have to flatten the horn out a bit. The guitar cost 250$ how much could it really devalue it? I have thought about the back of the horn toward the tip but another thing that bugs me about the SG style is the twisted strap. So while that could move the strap forward enough to stop neck dive it doesn't stop strap twist. Pros, I'm thinking it would make a guitar with a great neck, great play ability and sound actually fun to play. I've got a late-60's SG I played for years. It is a great guitar, but it is neck heavy...primarily because of the Grover tuners! I never liked the big straps...felt like Velcro on my shoulder! Dane - If you need to move the strap button I would move it. The last thing you need is a guitar you hate playing live, and the move wouldn't devalue your guitar enough to be a big deal (in my opinion). By the way -- by the early 60s both the Les Paul (original design) and Strat were seen as guitars "old dudes" played. Had Hendrix not played a Strat, and Clapton/Bloomfield/Green not played Les Pauls, we may have lost them to history. John

here is my custom made strap. It is the brides on the sides that keep the guitar from sliding around. The top is real Python snake skin the back is leather. It was made by my brother who has now passed. It is the most comfortable strap I have ever owned.
What I like about it is it can be adjusted at both ends. It is 4" wide. My other 2 favorite straps are 4" wide as well.
Here are my top favorite straps that I own. Yes I own a lot of straps. The other ones are like 2" or less wide. I find for me that the skinny straps cut into me. And with all my problems I have in my neck and shoulder I need the wider straps. Not that I use them anymore. I am at home playing these days. May be the next thing I start selling off.

Cool looking straps Eddie. Best beloved bought me a Levy's strap a couple of years ago, but it's simply no good. The padded portion finishes right where it should be doing its job. I turned it around on the guitar thinking I'd installed it incorrectly! I can't be the only one that feels this way about the Levy straps. (I have two and they're both the same.)
My best straps are the two I had made at a saddler's shop in Teddington, West London back in the 1970s. I can't remember the name of the shop now, but the straps are plain leather with no buckles to scratch your babies and no adjustment (or any padding either!) just rounded off ends cut to the right length. I punched holes at each end and made tiny razor slits. They're comfortable and bomb proof. You're brother sounds like he was a top guy Eddie.

John, I was kidding about devaluing the 250$ Epi SG. Just haven't got around to doing yet. Eddie, most of my straps have just been the cheapo nylon ones about 2" wide. A couple of years back I bought a wider padded one (about 3") and I like it a lot. Steve, one of the nicest bass necks I've played was a 1970ish Guild Starfire bass that I did a very extensive rehab on many years ago. I think I have a video the finished product on my YouTube channel somewhere. So I went and found the link. youtu.be/AbuAV6LdSmQ

At one time I had enough straps to go with all my guitars. In other words I had a strap in the case of each guitar along with cables and picks and extra set of strings. That way I could grab a a case with a guitar in it and go. But now I don't go out and play anymore. So I just may have to start selling off my straps. I have them hanging in my closet.
I think the brown strap is Levi strap. It seems I do have another one as well. I'll have to look at my stash. LOL

Turns out I was right I do have another Levi strap. It's all leather and 4" wide. I got it at a flea market super cheap. Think I'll get off this computer and pull all my straps out and start working on what to get rid of. I may just out them with some of the guitars that I have for sale. That's one way to get rid of some. LOL! EB
