Hey, I already told you what I did the other day so are some pics. Router template clamped in position, Padding the dips of the srch top with pieces of my old tele mouse pad. After the routing, sorry about the blur, the preferred weapon. Glue up and clamping of the mahogany fill. I made another template to route into the top and filler to set the Ebony into. It's kind of copping out with style, the top was a big mess with all the pickup holes this seamed like a better option then just a solid color paint scheme. d

Hey it's coming together Dane!
I have to ask, what do you plan to do with that big block of wood in that cavity?

It's getting covered with an Ebony veneer that will be inlayed with either the Eye Of Horus or a fish that has a bass cleft for the eye and gills. My client also wants the fish to have feet which I'm not to keen on but it's his bass. Hope that was clearer. d

Oh yes! I forgot about that inlay you were going to have your guy do! Sorry, I remember now and that makes sense.

That bass is going to look good! The vintage value is really shot no matter what you do, but it'll always have a decent value and be an awesome player. Look forward to the follow up. I'll be posting some pics of a Guild bass soon. I'm getting ready to get back on it. The inlay is done, I collected a bunch of parts over the years. Just needs finishing!

Well this one is finished, this thing got back burnered to the max. But I am extremely happy with the result. The video explains some of the process but if you have questions feel free to ask.

Boy back burner... I would say the flame had been put out. LOL!
Nice job Dane! I have 3 guitar rebuilds that I am doing. they are driving me nuts. Only in the fact trying to find time to work on them. I also have an (small) amp project that I am working on. But I can only work on this stuff as I can... But I guess it keeps me going. Looks like you have a lot to do as well. Keep the videos coming. EB

I had innumerable problems with the finish on this one. Two different grain fillers, one of which was a 2 part epoxy that must have been old cause it didn't set up right or fast. Two coats with that and it sanded horribly, then a coat with aquacoat and that didn't sand well either. And after all that grain fill I still had lacquer sinking in the grain. So I thought I'd just fill it with lacquer cause I was done screwin with fillers. Kept spraying and sanding back, it took forever and it took a lot of lacquer. And I changed shops and for some reason this location is plagued with crap in the air that kept landing on this bass. Agh. Anyway it's gone now.
Thanks for the kind words you two.

I quit doing refinishes on customres guitars for them reasons. Plus since our move I really don't have a place to do refinishes on guitars. But I like scaling back. I am now doing setups and rebuilding guitars and doing electronic changes. This is keeping me busy.
But you know from passt postings of mine I have had a lot of redoes of finish work gone bad.
Cool you hung in there with it.

Nice finish! I'm still without a paint booth. Spraying outside currently till I remedy that.
