John, I got my custom picks from pickworld.com The process was dead simple and they emailed a jpeg to show me what my picks would look like. The more you order the price/pick goes down substantially. 100 picks was $45 including delivery. Thanks for the tip...will check it out. John

Keep that Sam Ash pick...won't be any more of those. John I'm definitely keeping a very well worn triangular "tortoiseshell" pick with "Manny's" (a well known New York shop- is it still going?) embossed on one face and "Wings" embossed on the other face. It came out of the glove compartment of Denny's Aston Martin during a service ...

"Denny's Aston Martin"....I'm sure there is a story behind this one.
Concerning Manny's in New York (156 West 48th Street in Manhattan ), it closed in 2009 and the building was supposedly demo'd.
I remember going in that place years ago and thinking how cool it was.

No story John. Back in the 1970s, my friend was an apprentice in the motor repair shop where Denny had his Aston serviced. He casually flipped the pick in my direction one night out for a beer in a pub. The writing is faded now and if I didn't remember what it said I'd probably struggle to make sense of it. Also, the points on the triangular profile are all as round as a dime!
In the late 1970s or early eighties, I went with my sister (B.A. trolley dolly) on a 26 hours freebie jolly to New York, and despite the restriction on what we could do in the time available, I insisted on making a pilgrimage to see Manny's- it was surfing on The Hippie's tongue!
I never got to see George Gruhn's emporium though.

Very cool, Steve.
George Gruhn's store is its fourth different location in Nashville. I preferred his third store on Broadway - it was a beautiful place, but it was overrun with drunk tourists.
Downtown Nashville has become sort of a theme park for drunkards and it is too much to take sometimes. I think Mr. Gruhn had enough and moved south of downtown.
There are four great vintage stores close to downtown Nashville: Carter Vintage, Rumble Seat Music, Gruhn Guitars, and Music City Vintage.

John I got to visit three of those stores while I was Nashville. Didn't get to Music City Vintage. Each store I went to had its own unique vibe to it. Not to mention a boat load of amazing instruments. And I did get to meet and speak with Tom Murphy which was a cool experience. I found down town to be way to crowded and busy for my tastes.
