Yes, I would like to have one of the guitars my friend owned. But I don't have the money to give them right now. Last time I friend of mine passed I was able to buy all 7 of his guitars. I have one of them that I kept for myself.
This friend has some high end acoustics guitars and I think 4 electric guitars and few amps. Two of the electric guitars he has was built by me. I would like to have the Rose and one other. But just can't come up with the money for them. Now I have a ER bill to pay.
Yes, I know about taking my time in getting these builds done. But, I am so close to having the one done. I'll have a lot of time this week to work on them. My wife had to go see her sister and she will be gone for a week. So, I need something to fill in my days with.
I'll be working on Ms Candy today.

OK guys and gals... I finally got this guitar up and playing like it should. After filing on some more frets from the 17th up on one side the high E side, I think I now have a great playing guitar.
I was having some fret problems up buy the 5th fret. I adjusted the truss rod and heard a big "POP" I thought the truss rod broke. It didn't buy now I don't have that problem around the 5th fret. I have a feeling the the truss rod had gotten stuck on the neck and came loose. Hum... The neck looks good and straight.
I should have a video up within the few days.
The thing I learned on this build, is to wait to put the frets in until after the neck is set in. I can still put the side markers in before I set the neck. There is nothing saying the markers can't go in before the frets. LOL!
Now that everything is set. The guitar is coming alive. This is one of them builds that the more you play it the better it sounds. I think after acclimating and the more the wood starts to vibrate. the guitar starts to find it's voice. Call me strange if you want. But, I know this is true of many guitars I have built.
On another note... I got hold of my friends wife today. (my friend who just passed) She has already sold off all of his guitars but 3. A Taylor that is worth between $2500 to $3000. Then the two that I built him. The Rose and miss Cherry. The Rose is going to his daughter and the other one is going up for auction. Cherry was signed by some famous band. So, the family thinks it should sell for more because of that. We will see. So I could not get any of the guitars that I was wanting. But I am glad that 2 of his kids have two of his guitars. Still hard for me to believe he is no longer here.

Whenever I have screwed together a Leo-type, it always feels likd a collection of parts, but then one day a couple of years (or maybe a few more down the line) I pull it from the case or down from the wall hooks and it seems as though it has got comfortable with itself and everything has bedded in, to the extent that I become unwilling to fiddle with it. I even found that after I reassembled my 1973 Stratocaster- it didn't feel "right" and that served to reinforce my general reservation regarding 70s Strats, but many years later it just feels "together" again. This is not the same thing as a guitar's sound maturing over time. I imagine that there might be a little of that phenomenon in a set neck nicely constructed instrument like this all teak guitar if only marginal compared to bolt-ons? It's great to discover you've nailed the beast at last Eddie, I won't push you for an audio file because it just reminds me of my own failures in that respect, but then again ...

Eddie - glad the trussrod was OK. That is always one of the scariest parts of doing setups, particularly with new guitars and old guitars! I always loosen the trussrod completely before I tighten it. You wouldn't believe how many old guitars come into the shop with the trussrod maxed out and somebody had tried to tighten it. It's not too bad with Gibsons because you can replace the nut pretty easily, but a lot of the Fenders are ready for the trash pile after somebody "worked" on them. The worst are the American Standards with 1/8" hex nuts...in my opinion. Thanks for sharing the build. John

Great tip about loosening the rod completely before attempting to tighten it. I have never considered that before now and it immediately made sense to me. Always something new to discover it seems.

The worst are the American Standards with 1/8" hex nuts...in my opinion. Thanks for sharing the build. John I always make sure that the truss rod is in "neutral" before I mount it in the neck. Once in the neck I check it again by adjusting the rod back and forth. I do the same thing after I put string on it. So it surprised me when it popped. I have never broken a truss rod but I have had them pop. But it's been a long time since one has done that to me. LOL
When I first started all this stuff with guitars, people had me so afraid to adjust a truss rod. But, now several hundred truss rods later, I'm not so afraid.
I have had them so locked up that I thought I would brake them in trying to get them to come loose. But so far I have been able to work them loose. I bought an acoustic once that I was told the truss rod was broken. But it turned out someone had loosened it all the was out and stuck in back in the neck. I managed to get it back in and all was fine. The guy that owned the guitar told me he had taken it to two places and both told him it had a broken truss rod. Hum...
But, yes there have been maybe two I could not fix because someone else had broken them to the point of replacing the neck or putting in a new truss rod. I don't understand why so many thing they have torque on stuff to only wind up braking it.
I go on FB and I go on a lot of the FB guitar repair sites. I cannot believe all the miss information that goes on in them places. So many on there try to come across as some kind of an expert on guitars. But in the end they really don't help anyone at all. Truss rod adjustments is the big thing I see a lot of. The other one is set up. I think to me it's funny when I see someone ask... What is the cost of a simple set up or a full set up?... To me there is only one set up. If anyone wants me to set up a guitar, I do the hole guitar or I will not do anything to it. To many time in adjusting a truss rod you will find out how true the frets are. More time than now I end up have to level the frets and doing all the work to make them nice. So now I charge one price. If for some reason I don't have to do anything to the frets, I will give them a discount. But it is rare. I do find I need to level frets more on Fenders and I do Gibson's. Even EPI LPs. Most of them have a good level done to them from the factory. Evey once in while I'll have to level them but like I said, not I do with Fender or Squires.

OK, I have not made a video of the guitar yet. Two things have been going on. One, I have not been doing to well again. The doc keeps messing with my drugs and I will be having more test. Not fun!
Two;
The guitar is not behaving. I adjust the truss rod and everything is fine. Then two days later more fret buzzing. So, I am trying to get the bugs worked out it, before trying to do a video.
I have a feeling I may have made the neck to thin. I should have made it a little thicker to give it more support for the tension of the strings.
If you remember I used flat sawn wood for the neck and not quarter sawn. So I think it's a wood grain issue going on. If it does not settle down soon, I may end up pulling the fret board and see about putting in some rods along side the truss rod. I would hate to cut the neck off and start all over again. But, I have have to I will.

After some more tweaking, I think, I have it under control. Did some tweaking on the pickups as well. She is starting to sound like on of my guitars now.
So, today, I think I am going to try and make a video of the guitar. I'll, see if I can post it today. But it take most of the day or night to get it to upload. I don't have cable I have DSL it's free the landlord pays for it.
I can't afford cable right now.
I'll let you all know once I get the video done and posted on YT.

Thanks guys! Hope you gave me a thumbs up...
Ms Candy, was a fun build over all.
She did give me a few challenges a long the way. But I over came them. I played her for another hour after doing the video. As the wood is getting use to being an instrument, the guitar is starting to sound better and better. I really do thing that keeping the wood vibrating helps not just this guitar but others as well. I know from other build as she gets some age on her she will sound better and better.
So, fun to take a pile of wood and make something that makes music.
