wristhingych, I had to try. Just to see if it worked or not. I don't get it, looks like it's working. Flips after the post maybe?
Yep, flipped after I posted. So what have the freaks made this Incredibly normal word mean that is so bad it has to be changed.

Flip! The software just auto-corrected "w.r.i.s.t.w.a.t.c.h". Unbelievable. e&oe ...Looked for wristwatch on the "ban list" and didn't find it. Sorry for the problem, and I will keep looking. Admin

John I don't need to speculate to guess that you have many other pressing demands before chasing down my daft comments. Whilst it's a bit silly, it is at least mildly amusing, and I wouldn't choose to make any change(s) that might spoil this oasis of common sense and good folk.

I looked up the possible meanings of the word in question. I can't unread what they have made something as innocuous as the word watch into. This world...

I've always understood its etymology Dane, and it is in common use over here as a kind of diluted derogatory descriptor used for persons not present, or for direct aggression. That's to say you can "get away with saying it" when its synonym is totally verboten. I am surprised that a US based institution should pay scant regard to what I believe is after all a British profanity, because US English is an evolved language that has left British English behind, sometimes for the better in my view, but not always ...
There are many place names over here that have rude or swear words incorporated (I assume not deliberately?) Right now there is a charity moped ride going on from Land's End in the far South West up to John O' Groats up in the far north, and the wags are determined to ride through every "rude" place name. I'll put money on them passing through Sc*nthorpe on the East Coast of England!
Really it gets a bit silly. We all know of the little blue birdies but it would be futile to attempt to write their common name. It's daft, but- anyone who has to moderate or administrate a forum will confirm that it sucks away more than just spare time, so any automation is a good thing if it saves work. Also, it can only hold the standards without letting them descend into profanity, and as such however stupid the result, the intention is altruistic.
Now where's that wascaly wabbit!

Steve -- I spent three years with the British Army in Germany. During that time I found this old adage true: We are two nations (UK and USA) separated by a common language.
Writing was an adjustment, as was trying to understand the various regional dialects and their associated phrases.
I enjoyed my time with the Brits, and I have to say they really knew how to throw a party!

In the scenario you describe that is undeniably true, but my experience with working over there is that Americans are über welcoming, especially what I think of as small town folk. Over here if you say hello to someone you don't know- say on a bus or a tube train or in a shop, you'll likely get a quizzical furtive look as a reward. My encounters with Americans have always been much more friendly and even gregarious. I had some fantastic working trips to Seattle in 2009. Sigh.

Well, well,well...
Went to a wood store yesterday. Wound up buying some really nice wood for my next build. Once I get home with it I'll get some pictures. I wish this wood store was close to where I live! Wow! I was like a kid in a candy store!
The young lady that was there taking care of my order, was telling that a lot of the woods that she once stocked can no longer be bought or gotten. Like ebony. So they substitute it with this other wood that I have never heard of. But it is black. The only reason I didn't buy any of it was cost, and it is super splintery.
I wish I could have spend more and bought more wood. But I got what I could afford for now. I did buy a wood that I had not heard of. But it looks cool! Please don't ask me the names of the woods. Because I don't remember them all. LOL!
But, I did buy a big board if birds eye maple. This will be the first time I ever use any of the wood. I am excited to use it.
My son finished the leather Eagle, so, I had to get some wood for that build. Can't wait to get started on that. EB

Maybe it's African Blackwood Eddie?
My Sobell has Wenge back and sides. I think he likes using Wenge.
I wasn't aware that Ebony had become unobtanium.

The store is only 35min away from the resort we are staying at with our son. But it's about 8 hr away from where we live. LOL! Super nice lady owns the store. She really loves working with wood. Her dad owns a saw mill. She use to work there before she decided to go into the wood buisness for herself. EB

She was saying that regulations on woods are getting steeper and steeper.
Plus the price is going up and up on a lot of woods.
I know from the last time I was in a wood store some years ago, the prices have really gone up. But I think I got a good deal on the woods I bought. I know it was a lot cheaper than buying it at Home Depot or Low's. I only wish that I could have bought more. HA!

Man! that's a long way from home. Good that you took advantage of being that close. Very glad my best resource is only 1.5 hrs from home. Any farther away really one might as well buy on line the cost of fuel alone could offset the shipping.

1.5 hours? Wowser! On this little island (and with a tail wind and no traffic jams) I can just about make the South Coast (The English Channel) in an hour and a half. I'm so provincial that to me such a journey is a bit of an undertaking (as in I think of it as "Here we go off to see the sea then.) Still 'n' all, I've driven a fair few of your routes and it's a different ball game over there. Of course we frequently drive 6-7 hours to the North West or the far South West, but that's not like going to buy some fine timber.
