I have finally got going on some projects. This particular one is the first I ever started, back in high school, almost 40 years ago! You will probably notice 2 things about this body 1. the gigantic hand chiseled control cavity, and 2. the lack of much space on the treble side for electronics. Well, I was 17 when I started this and just jumped in. I made such a large cavity because I thought that's what you did – I looked inside my Japanese Jaguar-like guitar (similar to photo below the Shark). The finish is probably nitro lacquer on it, and it has a lot of checking on it now. I've been hauling this thing around for ages. If anyone knows how to get those old masking tape marks off, I'd be thankful. It was that old masking tape witch always deteriorated with age. Also, I did not even know about a ground wire to the bridge then, and am trying to figure if there is a way to do it without putting the wire on top. Working on the pickguard now.

I'll have to get the name of the stuff I use to clean guitars with. It works really good. I'll post it later on for you.
You can also try liter fluid that works good too. Just don't use a lot of it in a closed room. EB

Hey I like that Shark design. Try the gugone for stickers I don't that will hurt nitro.

I tried alcohol, naptha, some car bug off thing. It is so old, it is not adhesive anymore, but whatever solids the adhesive and tape reduced to. I ended up scraping it off with a blade. Worked decently well.
My new problem is that I have lost the neck plate. It's a small Japanese one I bought from EagleBlues some years ago. THis sort of thing seems to happen on every project - something dumb but crucial. I spent the evening looking everywhere 2 or 3 times. Rats!

FOUND IT! This morning I flashed on the cup that's on my bench in the garage, where I put some stuff to get it out of the way. So here's the pickguard (photo before I scraped off the tape residue):

Oh yeah, in the cup, on the bench, in the garage, right where you put it so you would remember where you put it. I'm not ragging on you, this is my life's story.
Looking good, just one pup?

I think I'm going to stick with 1 PU, at least for now. This guitar already has so many hard to fix problems, the biggest being that the neck pocket and bridge studs are a little off, so it will never be a great player. So, I thought I would use the parts I have around that aren't headed for some other specific project. Thus the cookie tray pickguard. I may end up making the bridge from this block of aluminum I got at the metal supply store, or else just use a stop piece and figure it's for playin' slide.
This is it for the day ...

The body design was inspired by a shark I saw on a nature show. This shark has long, sweeping tail fin. If I was to design it now, I would have a front and lower bout much like a jaguar with the big fin swoop.

Very cool project! I think I still have a variety of Japanese parts if needed.
