Ok you made me do it. Seems like nothin going on so I'll post this about a piece of wood a guy gave me.
He's from church and knows that I build my guitars. So he brought this board in to where I work. He says it's blood mahogany. Looks pretty much like African mag but it's heavy. Anybody hear of this before. I looked it up couldn't find any reference to blood mag.
So it's not quite wide enough unless I go thru-neck and not quite thick enough with out a cap. I think I might use it on top with something for the main body but not sure yet. It will need chambers for weight relief. Has a good tap tone so let's see what happens.

A long time ago, someone was telling me about the mag, He was going to give it me... But it never paned out. That was the only time I heard of it, until now. It seems this person told me it was old Mahogany that was grown here in the USA. I really don't know. Just going off what someone else told me. EB

How about back and sides for an acoustic?

It would make a three piece back but it's not long enough for sides. I had givin that some thought. I would like to keep it on the front although it's pretty normal looking as mahogany goes. It prolly is destined to be a back.

The African Mahogany I used for the acoustic I'm finishing was quite heavy and very red, it might be what you have. Could you use it for necks?

Well this very heavy and red, could the same thing. And yes it would work well for necks I'll have to check the length.

Sounds like you have a new project coming up. When anybody mentions Blood anything I think of that purpley looking blood wood. I got a strip of it.

I've used blood wood on a few fretboards. Very hard but to me not as brittle as Purple Heart and at all purple in color. Prolly all kinds of variants though.
